TRANSPORTATION
A modern transportation system is critical for economic development and public safety. For years, improving the the highways and roads in the 6th District has been a high priority for me.
In the most recent federal highway bill, I was proud to secure $48 million for highway improvements for the Birmingham Metropolitan area. Included in these funds was $8 million to be used for development and construction of the Birmingham Northern Beltline. The creation of the Beltline will keep Central Alabama at the forefront of industrial and commercial expansion in our region. It will help create thousands of new jobs throughout the area.
Aside from the Birmingham Northern Beltline, I secured $4 million for widening and safety improvements along I-20 in St. Clair County; $6.4 million to widen I-65 South in Shelby County; $8 million for a Helena Bypass; $5.44 million for a Highway 31 bypass in Calera; and funds for various highway safety improvements.
These projects will help alleviate traffic congestion, and reduce accidents and fatalities on our busy roads. They are a valuable investment in public safety.
