Whitfield Delivers On Local Transportation Projects Jul 29, 2005 Congressman Ed Whitfield secured $13 million for transportation projects in the First District. The projects were authorized in the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (TEA-LU) that passed the House by a vote of 412-8 on Friday.

TEA-LU authorizes $286 billion for federally supported highways, highway safety programs and transit programs through fiscal year 2009. The bill increases funding for constructing and improving our nations highways by 30 percent. The legislation improves transportation project delivery by insuring better coordination among state departments of transportation and federal permitting agencies.

This legislation will improve our areas infrastructure and help spur economic development, said Whitfield. Congress has passed legislation that will enhance economic productivity, relieve congestion, enrich our quality of life, and make our transportation systems safer.

Local transportation projects inserted in the bill by Whitfield include:

$4.8 million for the Albany Bypass in Clinton County

$3.2 million for US 41A in Hopkins County

$2.56 million for the Pennyrile Parkway Extension in Christian County

$1.6 million for the KY Multi-Highway Preservation Project in Logan County

This bill will put Kentuckians to work by creating the kind of jobs that support families and increase our tax base, continued Whitfield.
