August 2, 2006
WASHINGTON, August 2 U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield on Wednesday announced that the Paducah Area Transit System will receive a $1,089,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
The grant will be used to purchase new busses and sedans for the Transit System's vehicle fleet. Whitfield helped secure the funding as part of the Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2006.
Since 2000, Whitfield has secured more than $2,120,000 in federal funds for the Paducah Area Transit System.
"I was proud to work to secure this important funding, which will be used improve transportations services in Paducah and the surrounding areas in McCracken County," said Whitfield. "A vibrant public transportation system will increase residents mobility and benefit the city's economy. I will continue to work to secure other federal assistance for McCracken County."
