Barkley Regional to Receive $526,000 from FAA
June 19, 2006
WASHINGTON U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield on Monday announced that the Barkley Regional Airport will receive a $526,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The funds will be used for pavement improvements near the terminal and general aviation aprons. Since 1996, Whitfield has helped secure over $20 million in federal funds for Barkley Regional.
"Barkley Regional is a critical transportation hub for western Kentucky," said Whitfield. "These projects will improve safety and operations, and I will continue other efforts to bring assistance to the airport."
The grant is administered through the FAAs Airport Improvement Program (AIP). The AIP provides federal assistance for the planning and development of public use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). The NPIAS designates more than 3,300 airports that are significant to national air transportation and which are eligible for federal assistance.
