Whitfield Announces $25,000 in Federal Funds for Muhlenberg County
June 19, 2006
WASHINGTON U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield on Monday announced that the Muhlenberg County Airport will receive a $25,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The grant provides funding for land acquisition costs for the extension of a runway at the airport.
"I am pleased that the Muhlenberg County Airport has been awarded these funds," Whitfield said. "These funds will be used for necessary safety modifications, which will improve operations at the airport and ultimately serve to benefit the economy in Muhlenberg County."
The grant is administered through the FAAs Airport Improvement Program (AIP). The AIP provides federal assistance for the planning and development of public use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). The NPIAS designates more than 3,300 airports that are significant to national air transportation and which are eligible for federal assistance.
