Whitfield Announces $300,000 Grant for Tompkinsville Airport
June 19, 2006
WASHINGTON U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield on Monday announced that the Tompkinsville-Monroe County Airport will receive a $300,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The funds will be used for the construction of a new 10-unit hangar to provide space for aircraft that are currently parked in a community hangar.
"This project will be a significant enhancement for the airport," said Whitfield. "These funds should allow for expanded services at the airport which will ultimately benefit the economy in Tompkinsville and the surrounding areas."
The grant is administered through the FAAs Airport Improvement Program (AIP). The AIP provides federal assistance for the planning and development of public use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). The NPIAS designates more than 3,300 airports that are significant to national air transportation and which are eligible for federal assistance.
