WASHINGTON - Congressman Adam H. Putnam (FL-12) won the top Trap award at the Great Congressional Shootout on May 17.
“This annual event brings members of Congress together with representatives from the outdoor industry for a day away from the halls of the Capitol,” said Putnam. “While the political parties went head to head on the trap, skeet and sporting clay range, the competition was all in good fun and everyone recognized that supporting the shooting sports and our outdoor heritage is not a partisan issue.”
“Perhaps more important than getting crack shots to the event is bringing out members who are relatively new to shooting or who haven’t participated in the Shoot Out in the past,” said Putnam. “By participating in the event these members can understand more clearly how their involvement on sportsmen’s issues in Congress supports the passions of their constituents as well as a vibrant conservation movement.” The Congressional Shoot Out brings veteran shooters and beginners together for a day of friendly competition between Democrat and Republican members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus. This year’s event on May 17 drew a record 26 members of Congress – 13 Republicans and 13 Democrats – to compete for the coveted trophy awarded to the straightest shooting party. The event not only exposes new shooters to trap, skeet and sporting clays but also helps build bipartisan camaraderie among Caucus members.
Putnam took the top Trap honors for members of Congress, shooting a solid 22 out of a possible 25.
