WASHINGTON - Congressman Adam H. Putnam (FL-12) is offering complimentary tours and ticket scheduling for constituents from the 12th Congressional district who are planning on visiting Washington, D.C. this spring and summer.
“As summer approaches, Washington, D.C. comes alive with the famous cherry blossoms in full bloom and people from the around world putting on their comfortable shoes to tour the great monuments and sites of our nation's capitol. Visiting Washington, D.C. for the first time can be an overwhelming adventure. My staff and I will make every effort to make your visit more enjoyable and unforgettable,” said Putnam.
Never before has Washington, D.C. provided so much to do in so many places - and at such an appropriate time. Culture, heritage, nationally acclaimed theater, musical concerts, festivals, world-renowned shopping, and inspiring monuments and museums offer ideal touring choices. Not only are Washington, D.C.’s sightseeing options big in number, they nearly all offer free admission.
“One of the privileges I have as a Member of Congress is the ability to provide my constituents with Congressional tour tickets for visitors to Washington, D.C. Tickets I can provide to my constituents are to the White House, the United States Capitol, the Library of Congress, the Kennedy Center, the Supreme Court, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the National Cathedral,” said Putnam.
These tours are an excellent way to see all that the nation's capital has to offer and all of these tours are of no charge to constituents. All tickets are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the large number of visitors from the 12th District of Florida, many of the tickets are reserved as far as six months in advance. In addition, the terrorist attacks of September 11th have resulted in changes in procedures, so those wishing to obtain tickets should request them as early as possible in order to maximize their chances.
“I recommend that you start planning your visit to Washington early. Tours at many locations fill up quickly, so it is important to reserve tickets and tours as soon as possible,” said Putnam. “I suggest that families and groups of 10 people or less submit requests at least two months in advance of a visit, and that large organized groups submit requests at least six months before a planned visit.”
Be prepared for more restricted security guidelines. Security regulations allow a search of all the contents on a person; therefore, avoid bringing large book bags and backpacks. Please arrive about ten to fifteen minutes before your scheduled tour time.
“I also hope you will take the time to visit the Florida House, Florida’s ‘embassy’ in our nation’s capital. Their helpful staff will ensure that your stay in Washington, D.C. lives up to your expectation,” said Putnam. “Florida House is owned by the people of the state of Florida and is an extraordinary resource for all ages visiting Washington, D.C.”
Floridians who are planning to visit Washington, D.C. may contact Congressman Putnam’s office at 202-225-1252 or through his website at http://www.adamputnam.house.gov for further assistance. Please enjoy your visit to Washington, DC!
