Amusement Park Ride Safety
Introduction | Press Releases | Legislation
The nation’s leading safety agency, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), oversees the safety of carnival rides transported from place to place, but a loophole in the law prohibits the CPSC from overseeing the safety of rides that are permanently located at amusement parks. Rep. Markey has introduced legislation that would restore the authority of the CPSC to investigate accidents at amusement parks so that the causes of accidents on these rides can be determined, information can be shared with operators of the same rides in other states before accidents occur, and the CPSC can compile comprehensive safety information to inform consumers.
