| A senior member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Rep. Markey is committed to making sure our skies remain safe. In 2007, Rep. Markey succeeded in negotiating a new, stronger security standard into law for air cargo carried on passenger planes: by 2010 all air cargo on passenger planes must undergo the same level of security screening as is applied to passenger-checked bags, a major departure from the way air cargo screening currently is handled.
