Votes and Legislation
Today in Congress
Roy Blunt has a strong record of hard work on the important issues facing Americans. From national security to tax relief, Congressman Blunt’s voting record and legislative portfolio reflect the values and interests of Southwest Missourians.Roy's Voting Record
A strong proponent of tax relief for America’s families, Roy worked to pass President Bush’s tax relief package, the largest tax cut in a generation. Building on that theme, Roy has pushed to permanently repeal the onerous death tax, which unfairly impacts family farms and small businesses, and the marriage tax penalty. Recognizing that American growth depends on economic security, Roy worked to pass four economic stimulus packages, as well as a terrorism risk insurance plan.
Granting Trade Promotion Authority to the president was a top priority for Roy. Spearheading “listening groups” with his colleagues, Roy worked to communicate the importance of allowing the president to negotiate trade deals with foreign countries to open up new markets to American goods and services, creating new jobs for working Americans.
Having traveled to the region many times, Roy understands the importance of a stable Middle East. To that end, he introduced and guided to passage the Arafat Accountability Act, legislation to hold Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat accountable for his acts of terrorism against the Israeli people.
Roy is a former chief election official for the state of Missouri and believes that the nation’s democratic system depends on strong election systems. In the aftermath of the 2000 presidential election, Roy worked with a bipartisan group of legislators to pass an election reform bill to provide federal resources and expertise to assist with local election systems.
A former educator and college administrator, Roy knows the importance of a strong educational foundation. Roy worked hard to pass the president’s education package, granting unprecedented flexibility to local school districts to meet the needs of their students.
