Washington, DC – Over the past few years, Representative Gresham Barrett (SC, 3) has grown increasingly concerned about the number of illegal immigrants living in the United States. In 2000 the U.S. Census Bureau estimated that 8.7 million foreigners were living illegally in the United States. This afternoon, Rep. Barrett took another step to correct the problems with our immigration system by introducing the Securing America’s Future Enforcement Reform (SAFER) Act of 2003. This bill would allow comprehensive immigration enforcement reform and provide the resources and reforms our legal immigration system needs.

Washington, DC – This afternoon Congressman Gresham Barrett (SC-3) voted in favor of H.R. 6, the Energy Policy Act of 2003. Barrett was please to learn contained within H.R. 6 is an amendment he offered on the floor of the United States House of Representatives in April. The amendment requires Secretary of Energy Abraham to conduct a study on the feasibility of developing commercial nuclear energy production facilities at Department of Energy (DOE) sites.
