Hoosier Head Start Programs Receive $6 Million in Federal Funding

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Head Start projects in Indiana a total of $6,141,062 in grant funds. Funding will be used for handicapped training and technical assistance.

“Head Start is one of the most valuable programs funded by the federal government because it prepares children to start school and emphasizes parental involvement,” said Lugar.

Federal funding from HHS’ Administration for Children and Families has enabled Head Start programs to provide comprehensive services for low-income Hoosier children and their families for more than 35 years. Head Start programs serve children ages three through five.
