Murray Calls for a New Commitment to the Care of Our Nation’s Heroes

Senatory Murray, a key member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, called on Congress and the country to recognize veterans care as a top priority and to recommit to honoring their service every day, not just on Veterans Day

“Every day should be Veterans Day across America and in the halls of Congress." - More

The 56th Presidential Inauguration

President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn in on January 20, 2009 as the 44th President of the United States.  The Inauguration will take place on the West front and grounds of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.  Each member of the 111th Congress will receive a limited number of free tickets for their constituents to attend this event.

UPDATE: After receiving more than 6,000 individual requests for tickets, Senator Murray’s office has stopped taking requests for tickets to the Inauguration ceremony.  We stopped taking these requests on Wednesday November 12th because the demand for tickets far exceeds the limited number of tickets our office is likely to be provided. In 2005, our office received around 350 tickets and we expect a similar number for the upcoming ceremony.

We are however, still taking names and contact information via our webform and D.C. office phone lines for constituents to be added to a list for information on non-ticketed areas and any additional Inauguration information our office is provided.

Washington state residents who have requested tickets PRIOR to November 12th:

  • You will be notified in mid-November to early-December on the status of your request.  Please hold any follow-up calls or emails until after that time.
  • Tickets CANNOT be mailed – they will only be available for pick-up in person in Senator Murray’s Washington, D.C. office (173 Russell Senate Office Building).
  • Tickets can ONLY be picked up by the individual requesting tickets upon presentation of photo ID.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) will be responsible for tickets to the Inaugural Parade and the Inaugural Balls. Only the PIC is responsible for distributing tickets for these events.  Further information will be posted to this page once it becomes available.

The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) is responsible for distributing and providing tickets to Members of Congress ONLY.  Any websites claiming to sell and/or provide tickets to the Inauguration should be handled with caution.

To add your name to our waiting list, please continue to our
Email Senator Murray page
, and select the topic, “Inauguration Tickets.”

Washington senator re-pledges allegiance to veterans

Speaking to a conference for military families, Murray spotlighted two issues she plans to address in Washington, D.C.
One concern is making sure soldiers have enough time between deployments “to regroup and reconnect” with their families.
“And,” she added, “we need to make sure for once and for all that when our troops come home they always get the world class care that they have earned.”

Baird and Murray celebrate dredge success

It was truly a joyous occasion in Chinook last week as a big crowd gathered at the Chinook Fire Hall to thank U.S. Rep. Brian Baird and U.S. Sen. Patty Murray for their last-minute save of the Port of Chinook's channel. The two were instrumental, thanks to a barrage of phone calls, in procuring $1.5 million to dredge the perpetually silted-in channel.
