  Honoring our Veterans
Every North Carolinian, and every American, owes a debt of gratitude to our nation’s veterans. Every freedom we enjoy has been defended and upheld by those who have taken up arms and worn the uniform of our great nation. We remember all those who have served, including those who served in wars past, those who are serving in combat today, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice on battlefields far from home. As we honor these brave men and women, we should remind ourselves that their sacrifices and commitment to our nation should be honored and celebrated every single day.

In Washington, we work to make the lives of our veterans and their families better. Whether it be an updated GI Bill to help veterans and their immediate families get an education, or expanding the amount of money available to help homeless veterans get off the street, we are working to find solutions to the problems confronting our nation’s veterans. Our work however, is never done. We need to provide better access to world-class health care for all veterans, especially those living in rural areas. Veterans shouldn’t be forced to drive hundreds of miles to receive the care they need and deserve. Our Veterans also deserve an updated disability rating system that meets the modern needs of our wounded warriors. These are just a few of the many issues facing our veterans that will be addressed in the coming months.

We as a nation honor the over 24 million veterans who have served. I encourage every North Carolinian to take time to thank them. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Presidential Inauguration Information
Every four years, our nation’s capital celebrates the excitement and pageantry of the Presidential Inauguration. As in years before, my office receives many requests from North Carolinians who want to witness the swearing in of our nation’s president. This year is no exception. To date, my office has received thousands of requests to attend this year’s inauguration, which is on January 20th.

Unfortunately, the number of requests we have received far exceeds the number of tickets my office will be assigned, and we will not be able to accommodate everyone’s request for tickets in the ticketed area. Any North Carolinian wishing to attend should know that there will be a general admission area on the National Mall that will accommodate those who do not have tickets. I encourage you to take advantage of that opportunity as well as the other many events that are planned for this historic inaugural. For information on these events, please visit http://inaugural.senate.gov.

As always, I also encourage all North Carolinians who are visiting Washington, DC to stop by my office and say hello. We’re always glad to see you.
