EducationCongressman Hoyer wants to make sure that the schools in his district are the best they can be and that all students have an opportunity to receive a world class education. Accomplishing this requires that there are enough resources for our schools and teachers to provide students with the best education possible. As a former member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Education, Congressman Hoyer gained tremendous experience on education issues and has long been a strong supporter of bills to reduce college costs and expand opportunities for more students to go to college.
Environment and EnergyCongressman Hoyer believes it is important to ensure the health of the environment so that we can continue to enjoy the numerous benefits of healthy land, fresh air, and clean water. He has especially worked hard to support clean-up efforts for the Chesapeake Bay and the rivers in his district, including the Patuxent, Potomac, Anacostia and St. Mary’s Rivers. Congressman Hoyer also has worked to protect our parks by helping to add thousands of acres of protected lands in the state.
Firefighters and Police OfficersSafety for citizens is a top priority for Congressman Hoyer who has fought to ensure that the police officers and fire fighters responsible for protecting our communities have the right equipment to do their jobs. Throughout his time in Congress, Congressman Hoyer also has worked in support of programs to train new fire fighters and police officers and to make sure that they are well-prepared to respond to any emergency.
HealthcareThere are millions of Americans who are unable to go to the doctor or receive proper medical care because they don’t have health insurance. Congressman Hoyer is fighting to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for all Americans. This Congress, he has successfully worked to get more healthcare funding for children whose families may not be able to afford it on their own.
NASA / Space and TechnologyCongressman Hoyer has worked hard to support NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center where scientists develop technologies that help the space agency conduct exploration missions and understand the properties of the universe. The center is also responsible for the maintenance and control of the Hubble Space Telescope - a technology that gives us an unobstructed view of the cosmos.
