Barrow Announces 2008 Veterans Town Hall Tour Schedule
Barrow’s 2008 Veterans Town Hall Tour is an annual opportunity for Congressman Barrow to meet with veterans in his district, thank them for their service, and listen to their concerns. Meetings will be held in Savannah, Mount Vernon, Statesboro, Milledgeville, Augusta, and Louisville.
Washington, DC – Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) wants to hear from Georgia veterans, and he’s got good news to share with them. From Monday, March 17, through Monday, March 24, Congressman Barrow will host 6 Veterans Town Hall meetings across Georgia’s 12th District. Since last year’s meetings, Congress passed $3.7 billion in additional veterans funding. That’s the largest single funding increase in the 77-year history of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Veterans Affairs Administration also more than doubled the mileage reimbursement rate for disabled veterans who have to drive long distances to VA hospitals for health care, from 11 cents to 28.5 cents, something Congressman Barrow has fought for since he took office in 2005.
"I hold these meetings because I don’t think our nation’s veterans should have to travel long distances to meet with their Congressman," said Barrow. "This tour is an opportunity to meet with veterans where they live."
All of Congressman Barrow’s Veterans Town Hall Tour meetings are open to the public. Veterans and active duty military personnel are encouraged to stop by to talk with Congressman Barrow, ask questions, and share their thoughts and concerns about how Congress is representing America’s veterans.
