PORTER TO HONOR AREA VETERANS, MCJROTC MEMBERS

HENDERSON, NV – On Thursday, April 20 at 10 AM, Third District Congressman Jon Porter will hold a ceremony to honor the newly-formed Las Vegas Wings Chapter of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, as well as Basic High School’s Marine Corps Junior ROTC (MCJROTC) program.  The ceremony will be held at Basic High School, Room 144.

The Distinguished Flying Cross was authorized by an Act of Congress on July 2, 1926 and is awarded to any officer or enlisted member of the Armed Forces who has distinguished themselves during combat in support of operations by “heroism or extraordinary achievement while participating in an aerial flight.”  In 1994, the Distinguished Flying Cross Society was formed as a nonprofit organization whose members have received the award.  Earlier this year, the Las Vegas Wings Chapter was officially recognized.

Basic High School’s MCJROTC program recently participated in the Western United States National Drill Meet, where they were the overall winner for the West Coast.  This marks the second time in the last four years Basic’s MCJROTC students have won this prestigious award.
