Federal Budget and Government Efficiency
The federal government now spends $20,000 per household. In constant dollars, that is the most America has spent since fighting a two front war in World War II. Spending that does not include Social Security and Medicare has jumped 39 percent in just three years. Much of that is in military and homeland security spending since September 11th, but Congressman McHenry believes that government must work to get all federal spending under control.
This year, Congressman McHenry joined with 20 other conservative Members of Congress and pushed successfully for a budget enforcement rule that will keep Congress from spending more than it previously allowed. This will help keep spending in check, and keep wasteful government spending under control.
The Congressman has cosponsored the Federal Sunset Act that would phase out ineffective and outdated government agencies and regulations. He has also cosponsored a bill to ensure government neutrality in contracting, which would put an end to union-based federal construction projects and would save taxpayers billions.
