Second Amendment
Congressman McHenry strongly supports the Second Amendment to the Constitution. As your representative, Congressman McHenry will defend the rights of law abiding citizens to purchase, use, and keep personal firearms. Gun control laws only endanger honest citizens. Criminals will not be deterred by additional rules and regulations preventing the right to bear arms.
Strict enforcement of existing laws and expanding programs such as Project Exile in Richmond, Virginia are the keys to reducing gun violence in the United States. The Congressman will vigorously oppose measures to register firearms with law enforcement or government agencies. History demonstrates that registration is the first step to confiscation.
Congressman McHenry is currently a cosponsor of many pieces of legislation that will protect Second Amendment rights, including the SAFE Act (H.R. 1243) which would allow for concealed carry reciprocity among states, the Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (H.R. 800) that would protect firearms manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits, and the Firearm Commerce Modernization Act to reduce the regulatory burdens on federally licensed dealers.
