Job Creation -- Economic Development
My number one priority is to create jobs in the 29th District of New York, and we must take every opportunity to spur economic development in the region. Therefore, I will continue to support proposals that will provide opportunities for employers to create jobs and allow small and large businesses to invest more of their own money back into their enterprises. We need to create -- at all levels of government -- an atmosphere that enables businesses to grow.
The American economy grew at a very healthy rate in 2006, creating nearly 2 million new jobs and lowering the unemployment rate from 4.9% in December 2005 to 4.5% in April 2007. The last time our nation’s unemployment rate stabilized at such low levels was prior to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
I will continue to aggressively fight to keep jobs in the 29th Congressional District, by promoting sound tax policy, improving our transportation infrastructure, bolstering education, and helping our small family farms to secure federal appropriations dollars and targeted grants.
