U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

Commonly Asked Questions

Can the Congressman assist me in obtaining information about my immigration application?

Yes. The Congressman has a designated person on staff who is happy to discuss your situation and, if appropriate, communicate with BCIS regarding your application.

I have a friend/relative who would like to visit the US. Can Congressman Blumenauer help with this process?

Yes. Most foreign nationals must get a Visitor Visa before entering the US by applying at a consulate or embassy abroad. The Congressman often writes to foreign posts with information about an applicant that may be helpful in getting approval. PLEASE NOTE: A letter from a Member of Congress is not a guarantee of visa issuance. The most common reason for denial is an applicant's failure to overcome the assumption that he or she will remain in the US. The Congressman tries to include information in his correspondence that pertains to this clause. Regrettably, a congressional office cannot help expedite an application through security clearance.
