Knollenberg Opposes Democrat Tax Increase

Suit & Tie

Washington, Mar 29, 2007 - Congressman Joe Knollenberg of Michigan announced today that he would be voting against the Democrat majority’s budget resolution because it contained the single largest tax increase in American history. Knollenberg, who voted for the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, believes these tax cuts should be made permanent. He issued the following statement on the Democrat budget resolution:

“The last time the Democrats controlled Congress was in 1993. What did they do? They rammed through the largest tax increase in American history. The Democrats are running Congress again, and they want to pass an even larger tax increase now. Their new budget would raise our taxes by $400 billion over the next five years.

“More than 3.5 million Michigan taxpayers would see their taxes rise by an average of $3,000, if the Democrats push their budget through. 26 million small business owners would see their taxes increase by an average of $3,960. The Democrat budget would raise the marriage penalty tax, increase taxes on families with children, and raise marginal income tax rates on working people.

“We don’t need more tax increases. We need to pass a budget that reins in federal spending, reforms entitlements, and makes the pro-family, pro-growth tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 permanent.”
