CAO named by Washingtonian magazine as a "Great Place to Work"

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the House of Representatives, Daniel P. Beard, announced today that the organization was named one of the top 50 “Places to Work” by Washingtonian magazine. The magazine publishes its choices every two years in a special fall issue. The publication began the award program in 1999.

The selection process is based on the assessment of several important elements of workplace culture including staff relationships, pay and benefits and employee development. Using information gathered from a self-nomination application process, and random employee surveys, the Washingtonian emphasizes their commitment to selecting offices with truly exemplary workplace culture.

“When people think of working for Congress, I want them to think of the CAO as an office they would be excited to join,” said Beard. “This award affirms for me and my staff that we work for a truly outstanding organization.”

The CAO’s teamwork, strong leadership, impressive work flow, team spirit and inclusive environment were all cited as reasons for the office’s selection over 225 other applicants.

“As a human resources professional, becoming one of Washingtonian’s ‘Best Places to Work’ is something that you strive for,” said Kathy Wyszynski, Senior Advisor for the CAO. “To know that people want to come to work is a rewarding feeling, and validates our organization’s focus on creating a successful workplace.”

The CAO continues its commitment to improving the workplace daily. By emphasizing the importance of staff satisfaction, the organization is making strides to continue as a leader in workplace success.

In the spirit of this commitment, the CAO has been making incremental changes in leave policy over the past several years. Annual leave enhancements have been made for all employees. In addition, the Family and Medical Leave Policy now provides six weeks of paid leave, and employees coping with a death can request administrative leave for up to five days. A leave share program allows for employees without annual sick leave to receive time if needed, and CAO employees may also have up to $500 a month made in student loan payments, for a maximum total of $40,000 per employee.
