Job Creation

Our economy is on the rebound, but not everyone is feeling the effects of the recent recovery. As the Congressman for the Third District of Arkansas, I intend to use this office to help attract and keep good jobs in our region.

In the 108th Congress, we passed economic stimulus plans that have strengthened our economy and created new jobs. In fact, over 2.6 million jobs have been created since August 2003. Unemployment is down to 5.4% and, is in fact, below the average of the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s.

However, laid-off workers in some sectors are having a harder time finding jobs in their lines of work than others. We need to find ways to keep our manufactoring jobs at home and to retrain workers for the demands of a changing economy. This continues to be a priority for Congress and I committed to working with my colleagues in the House of Representatives to ensure that Americans can be confident about their economic security in this new economy.
