Washington, DC (January 24, 2008) – Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15), senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, released the following statement in response to the announcement today that Congress and the White House reached a bipartisan agreement on a stimulus package to jumpstart the economy.
“Congress has put aside partisan politics in order to come up with a temporary, targeted plan that will help the millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet. This economic stimulus plan will clearly help the Rio Grande Valley by quickly moving money into the hands of our hardworking families. Thousands of South Texans will receive federal income tax rebates that will boost our local economy and pay down household debt. This package will also give South Texas small businesses much-needed relief by enabling them to write off taxes for new investments. I am proud of the bipartisan plan we have agreed upon and look forward to working with my colleagues to make sure this critical package moves swiftly through Congress.”
