Washington, DC (October 11, 2006) – Today, Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded Proyecto Azteca with a $300,000 Rural Housing and Economic Development Program Grant.
“Often, rural communities need extra assistance in order to provide residents with affordable, safe and quality housing,” said Hinojosa. “The RHED program provides funding for organizations like Proyecto Azteca to continue their work and help the people they serve reach the American dream.”
The purpose of the RHED Program is to develop capacity at the state and local level for developing rural housing and for economic development. HUD awards grants to local rural nonprofits, community development corporations, federally recognized Indian tribe, state housing finance agencies, and state community and/or economic development agencies.
