Washington, DC (September 11, 2007) – Today, Rep. Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX) released the following statement commemorating the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks:

“None of us will forget that horrific day six years ago when, in the face of an unfathomable act of terror, America pulled together to reaffirm our commitment to freedom and democracy.  We will also never forget the actions of our first responders and ordinary citizens who risked their lives to save their fellow Americans.   These heroes demonstrated the true spirit and strength of this great nation and its incredible ability to come together in the face of great tragedy.
 
“Finally, I commend the heroic service provided by our Armed Services in battling the forces of terrorism around the world.  Whether the mission is engaging Al Qaeda and the Taliban in the mountains of Afghanistan or transporting food and shelter to victims of the tsunami near Indonesia, our military has proved again and again to be worthy of our praise and admiration.  At great risk to their own personal safety, our service members have bravely acted on our behalf to protect our national security and to build goodwill throughout the world.

“On this day of remembrance, it is important not only to reflect on the great losses our country suffered six years ago but also to reaffirm our commitment to defending the people of the United States against any and all future challenges.”
