Washington, DC (July 31, 2006) – Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded schools in the 15th District with grants under the TRIO Talent Search Program.

“The Talent Search Program provides students with an opportunity to succeed beyond their high school careers and continue their education,” said Hinojosa.  “For many young people today, college remains just a dream; something unattainable and unrealistic.  What so many don’t know is that college can be a reality, and through hard work and perseverance, a college degree is possible.”

Recipients include:

• Coastal Bend College – $517,817.000
• The University of Texas-Pan American – $403,546

The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in their education.  The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to the postsecondary school of their choice.  Talent Search also serves high school dropouts by encouraging them to re-enter the education system and complete their education.
