Washington, DC (March 20, 2007) – Today, Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) announced that the Economic Development Administration has awarded a $1.2 million grant to the City of Mercedes for the expansion of its wastewater treatment facility to accommodate the city’s newly opened factory outlet and its planned phase-two construction.
“The Mercedes outlet shopping center has generated an explosion in business and economic development for the city, producing 400 jobs and $68 million in private investments,” said Hinojosa. “This grant will ensure the area’s continued growth and will also send a positive signal to other businesses interested in Mercedes.”
Rep. Hinojosa worked closely with Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez to secure this much-need funding for the City of Mercedes. Specifically, the funding will go toward expanding the capacity of the outlet’s wastewater treatment facility so that it will be able to support both the outlet’s current operations and the expansion underway.
