Washington, DC (January 12, 2006) – Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) today announced that the United States Department of Commerce has approved the application of the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council for an Economic Development Administration (EDA) investment. The $150,000 investment will be used for the continued implementation of the Council’s economic development planning program.
“Investment in our communities is crucial for their future success and the future success of our nation,” said Hinojosa. “In the past 10 years alone, the Lower Rio Grande Valley has experienced a tremendous amount of growth and surge in its economy. In order to sustain this growth, we must provide local governments with the tools and resources they need to compete in the 21st Century global marketplace.”
EDA provides financial assistance to meet the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the country by promoting innovation and competitiveness.
The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council is a voluntary association of local governments in Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy counties focused on promoting coordinated regional development.
