Miller urges cease fire between Russia and Georgia

REP. GEORGE MILLER URGES IMMEDIATE CEASE FIRE BETWEEN RUSSIA AND GEORGIA

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman George Miller, chairman of the House Democratic Policy Committee, released the following statement today in response to the escalation in fighting between Russia and the independent state of Georgia.

“As a member of the United States Congress, I urge the government of Russia in the strongest possible terms to withdraw its forces from the independent state of Georgia and to enter into a cease-fire agreement with Georgia. Whatever disputes exist between Russia and Georgia, it is in the interest of Russia, Georgia and the international community that they be resolved through diplomatic and not military means. It is never too late to cease military actions and I strongly hope that the leaders of Russia will take this opportunity to immediately halt its military actions and begin to resolve their disputes peacefully.”
