PORTER SECURES FUNDING FOR BOULDER CITY HOSPITAL

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Third District Congressman Jon Porter today announced that he has secured $300,000 for Boulder City Hospital as part of the conference report on H.R. 2419, the “Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2006.”  The funding will be used to expand and improve the Hospital’s Emergency Department, which is part of the Hospital’s overall Strategic Plan to upgrade and remodel the entire campus.  Porter secured an additional $300,000 for the same project in FY 04.

“This is the second large contribution that has come through Congressman Porter’s office, and without his efforts, we would not be nearly as close to our goal of expanding the Hospital and Emergency Department as we are today,” said Kim Crandell, Hospital Administrator.  “These funds are incredibly important, as they provide the seed money for other grants and monies coming from the community.”

At times of peak demand, patients are waiting in hallways on gurneys for a bed in the Emergency Room or the Hospital’s Acute Care Inpatient Department.   By increasing the size and modernizing the Hospital and the Emergency Department services, patients will receive medical care in more appropriate space.

“As Henderson and Boulder City continue to grow, it’s imperative that the hospital’s capabilities grow as well,” Porter remarked.

The conference report, which passed the House by a vote of 399-17, now awaits action in the Senate before going to the President for his signature.
