WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Porter today mourned the passing of Pope John Paul II.  The 84 year old pontiff passed away in his apartments in the Vatican due to complications with heart and kidney failure.
 
“Pope John Paul II provided the nations of the world, whether religious or not, with a moral compass through some of the most tumultuous periods of modern times.  With his infinite tolerance and capacity for calm in the face of challenge, the Holy Father has provided us with a prime example of the kind of life we should all strive to lead,” said Porter.  “My prayers are with the members and leadership of the Catholic Church in this time of extraordinary transition.”
