WASHINGTON, D.C. - Third District Congressman Jon Porter today issued the following statement on the death of Nevada Army National Guard Specialist Anthony Cometa, who died June 16 in Southern Iraq when the Humvee he was riding in crashed:

“Nevadans owe Specialist Cometa a debt of gratitude for his courageous service to our nation.  His tragic death serves as a chilling reminder that members of our military risk their lives everyday in order to defend our liberties, and their service should never be taken for granted.  My thoughts and prayers are with Specialist Cometa’s family and loved ones.”

Cometa was a member of the Henderson-based 1864th Transportation Company.
