TIBERI STATEMENT ON ECONOMIC STABILIZATION BILL
Washington,
Sep 29 -
U.S. Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH) issued the following statement after members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted on H.R. 3997 - Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008:
"This bill is an improvement over the proposal Secretary Paulson brought to Congress just a few days ago. But the fact of the matter is this stabilization bill is the single largest commitment of taxpayers' money in U.S. history, and we are rushing forward with a final vote. We've gotten to this point based on fear, not on fact, and we should be legislating based on fact. We must understand all the facts before we vote. This bill is a $700 billion check to build confidence in our financial markets. It's a remedy, not a cure, and I'm afraid there's nothing in this bill preventing us from having to write another $700 billion check in the coming weeks or months. If Central Ohio families and businesses are footing the bill to stabilize our ailing financial markets, they deserve a cure."
