Opening Prayer Given by the Guest Chaplain:
Lord God, this Congress is gathered to do business for the nation. As a nation, we’ve done business for you, as well, Lord.
You’ve said to feed the hungry. We’ve done that. You’ve said to give drink to the thirsty. We’ve done that. Lord, this nation has been blessed by you. We’ve given back to the world from the abundance you’ve given.
But our generosity is only a small reflection of your generosity to us as a nation. It is our prayer that you will continue to bless us and use us. Bless these men and women of Congress as they wrestle with the issues before them.
May you help all of us of this nation to repent of our selfishness and to seek righteousness. Help us to love you Lord with all our hearts and help us to unselfishly serve one another.
Amen.
