About Pete

Community Service

Beginning in 1999, Congressman Sessions teamed up with the Wireless Foundation, Motorola Inc., the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives to launch the Call To Protect campaign. As the national congressional leader on this monumental effort, Congressman Sessions worked toward the combined goals of increasing national public awareness of the plight of victims of domestic violence and challenging businesses to assist in finding a solution to a life-threatening problem that plagues every community in America.

Through donated wireless phones and airtime, the Call to Protect program provided wireless communication services to potential victims, offering a sense of security and mobility, especially during the transition from living in an abusive situation to regaining safety and independence. Through this and other efforts, Congressman Sessions hopes to demonstrate to the community how an honest, in-touch, market-driven approach to problems can help everyone deal with difficulties in our community.

The Call to Protect program collected more than 30,000 cell phones for redistribution.

Congressman Sessions is also the House of Representatives' sponsor for legislation called The Family Opportunity Act which he wrote with Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa. The Family Opportunity Act is bipartisan, bicameral legislation creating a Medicaid "buy in" for severely disabled children whose family income or resources are above poverty level. Under current law, families with incomes above the poverty line are ineligible to receive public assistance to aid in obtaining medical care for their disabled children. By allowing those families access to vital health care for their children with special needs, this bill helps keep families together and eliminates those provisions in the law that encourage families to remain impoverished rather than risk losing access to government medical assistance.

While Congressman Sessions is involved in many organizations and opportunities in Texas, we wanted to let you know about one in which you can become involved!!!

For those of you who are first time volunteers, Congressman Sessions will provide you with a free Team Sessions t-shirt!!!

What Is The Incentive?

Besides the great feeling that you get knowing that you are making your community more beautiful, you can also get credit for the time you volunteer at White Rock Lake. Congressman Sessions, in conjunction with "For the Love of the Lake," will be keeping track of service hours for those who wish to receive a Certificate of Congressional Recognition acknowledging their contribution. This makes the lake project a perfect opportunity for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, or any other group that logs community service hours. However, you don't have to be a part of an organization to receive recognition. Anyone that would like to receive an award signed by Congressman Sessions recognizing their contribution may do so. Please contact Flo Helton at 214.349.9996 or by e-mail at Flo.Helton@mail.house.gov to request your certificate. Participation will be verified by "For the Love of the Lake" facilitators.
