Saluting our Veterans

Washington, DC, Nov 6 -

On Tuesday November 11, Americans will have the opportunity to come together to pay tribute to the brave men and women of our nation’s Armed Forces as we celebrate Veteran’s Day.  Our nation will honor these individuals who have provided the ultimate public service - fighting for the freedom under which we all live.

Today’s soldiers are acting in the finest traditions of the veterans who preceded them, as they fight for the advancement of freedom and for the security of America.  In the face of ruthless enemies, they are demonstrating their bravery and compassion to those in great need.

I am proud of the commitment of our fighting men and women.  Wisconsin’s veterans have especially served honorably in America’s battles.  Members of Wisconsin’s National Guard and Reserve units are fighting to secure the freedom of millions of people who, until recently, lived under one of the cruelest dictatorships on Earth.  They are fighting terrorists thousands of miles away, in the heart of their breeding grounds, so we never again have to face those enemies on American soil.

Keeping our honored veterans in mind, I pledge not only to provide the troops currently serving with all they need to complete their missions, but to also work toward ensuring that benefits and services are available for all the veterans who have served, and who will serve, in the United States military.  This is but just one way I can show our veterans my gratitude for their service.  On November 11, I encourage everyone to take the time to salute our veterans, and express their thanks in their individual ways.
