TUSCALOOSA COUNTY
Tuscaloosa County is home to the University of Alabama. In the Fall of 2001 enrollment totaled 19,171, which included 15,206 undergraduates, 3,340 graduate students, an 625 first-professional students. The University of Alabama opened its doors in 1831, and provides world class education for Alabama's citizens. The University of Alabama is also know for Crimson Tide Football.The Paul "Bear" Bryant Museum is an excellent way to experience the glory and tradition of the Crimson Tide's twelve national championships. Tuscaloosa County is also home to Stillman College and Shelton State Community College. Stillman College was founded in 1876 and is home to 1,500 students. Shelton State was founded in 1979.
Tuscaloosa County is also home to the Mercedes-Benz factory that produces the M-Class SUV. The plant offers factory tours and also has a museum.
The Kentuk Arts Museaum showcases the region's arts and crafts. Also promoting the arts is the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa. On October 18th and 19th, the Kentuck Festival for the Arts is held. Other community events include the International Cityfest (May 2-3), the Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Festival (March), Moundville Native American Festival (Oct 1-4), and Heritage Week (March-April).
