COOSA COUNTY

Coosa County Point on Lay Lake

Coosa County was created in 1832 from lands ceded in the Creek Indian Treaty of Cusseta and from parts of Montgomery County. Hernando DeSoto was probably the first white man to visit what is now Coosa County. It is named for the Coosa River which forms the county's western boundary with Chilton county.

Lay Lake and Mitchell Lake help create the  border between Coosa County and Chilton County. Both are centers for  fishing and boatingHatchet Creek is also located in Coosa County, and is home to beds of the Cahaba Lilly.

Congressman Bachus represents western half of Coosa County.
