During the summer and throughout the year my office offers internships to college students. These internships usually last from four to six weeks and are a great learning experience for students who want to learn about the Congressional Legislative process. The number of spaces are limited, so contact my office early to start the application process.
High school students also have a unique opportunity to serve as Pages in the U.S. House of Representatives as appointed by their Member of Congress. To be eligible for the program, applicants must be 16 years old at the time of appointment and have a cumulative grade point average of "B" or better. School year pages attend classes each morning in the Library of Congress, while those in the summer months do not. Page programs usually run in semester long increments. A dorm is provided for pages to live in and some meals are provided. Additionally, pages are paid to help cover the cost of expenses. Once the Speaker's office makes the 2008 application available, my office will be happy to forward one to interested applicants.
Both of these programs provide exciting opportunities for young people to become involved in and learn about their government. I encourage all who are interested to participate. Please contact Jennifer Pino in my office to find out additional information about either of these programs or begin the application process.
The Deadline for 2008 Congressional Summer internships is February 29, 2008.
