The most important part of my job is helping the people I represent. From answering questions about federal agencies to giving tours of the Capitol, my staff and I are here to help you. Below are answers to some frequently asked questions about constituent services. Who can my office help? I look forward to hearing from any resident of Florida's 8th Congressional District who needs my assistance. The 8th District includes parts of Orange, Osceola, Lake and Marion counties. Unfortunately, congressional courtesy does not allow my office to assist people who are not residents of the 8th District, or whose problem does not fall under the jurisdiction of the federal government. If you are unsure of which Congressional District you reside in, click HERE.
What kind of assistance is available?
- Casework:
My office can help you cut through the red tape of the federal bureaucracy. I can help with problems with immigration applications, military and veterans' benefits, Social Security issues, with the Internal Revenue Service or problems with passports and overseas travel. Click HERE for more information.
- Tours:
If you are planning to visit Washington, D.C., my staff can take you and your group on a tour of the Capitol, including a stop in the visitors' gallery of the House of Representatives. About a month before you leave, contact my Washington, D.C. office. Click HERE for information to help plan your trip.
- Grants:
It is important to me that central Florida receives its fair share of federal dollars. A member of my staff can guide you through the many federal grant opportunities available to non-profit agencies, local government entities and small businesses in the 8th district. Click HERE for more information.
- Capitol Flags:
In honor of a special occasion, I can help you purchase an American flag that has been flown over the U.S. Capitol building. After it is flown, my office will send the flag to you with a commemorative certificate. Click HERE to request a flag.
- Academy Nominations:
One of the greatest honors of my job is nominating students to some of our nation's finest schools, the U.S. military academies. Students interested in attending the Military Academy in West Point, the Naval Academy in Annapolis, the Air Force Academy, or the Merchant Marines Academy should contact my office to inquire about a nomination. Click HERE for more information.
- Internships:
I am always impressed with the number of young people interested in serving the people of the 8th District. Any college student interested in seeing firsthand how Congress works can apply for an internship in my Orlando or Washington offices. Interns help my staff and me with a variety of legislative and administrative responsibilities. Click HERE for more information.
- How can I request assistance?
The Privacy Act of 1974 prohibits any department or agency of the Federal Government from releasing any personal information about an individual without that individual's written permission. Therefore, before I can initiate an inquiry with a federal agency on your behalf, it will be necessary for you to print out, complete, and sign a privacy release form, then fax or mail it to my office. Since e-mails do not contain valid signatures, they do not fulfill the requirements of the Privacy Act. Feel free to call my office if you have additional questions.
