Fun Facts!

1. Revere’s first inhabitants were Native Americans who belonged to the Pawtucket Tribe and were known as the Rumney Marsh Indians.

2. Revere was first discovered by Europeans when Captain John Smith explored the coast of New England in 1614.

3. In May 1775, the first naval battle of the American Revolution was fought at Chelsea Creek (now part of Revere). The colonials destroyed the first line of British ships.

4. Revere Beach, the nation’s first beach set aside specifically for the recreation of the public, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2003.

5. In 1906, Revere's greatest attraction ever, Wonderland Park, opened. Situated approximately where the Wonderland Dog Track is today, it was one of the nation’s earliest and most spectacular fantasy amusement parks

6. Horatio Alger Jr., the author of “Ragged Dick”, and 118 other famous novels, was born in Revere in 1832. His home is now a historical building open to tourists.

7. Actor Bill Macy, who had a role in the popular film “Analyze This”, was born in Revere.
