WHO: - U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) - State Senator Linda Holmes, 42nd Legislative District - Mayor Jim Waldorf, Village of Plainfield - State Representative Tom Cross, 84th Representative District - Walter Manning, Plainfield Trustee & Lockport Street Streetscape Chairman WHAT: Biggert will join several local officials for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the reopening of two-way traffic on Lockport Street in Plainfield. The reopening marks a major milestone in the village’s ongoing efforts to refurbish the downtown area. WHEN: Wednesday, October 29, 2008 11:30 am CT WHERE: Intersection of Rt. 59 and Lockport St. Plainfield, IL 60544 WHY: As part of Plainfield’s efforts to promote economic vibrancy and improve pedestrian convenience in the downtown area, road construction forced the closure of Lockport Street to all west bound traffic between James Street and Route 59. Biggert will join other area officials to celebrate the reopening of the street to two-way traffic, marking a major milestone for village residents and local businesses along the route. While the street was blocked off, the village added a new water main, rebuilt the street, and made other improvements to advance the Lockport Street Streetscape project. The project includes enhancements such as expanded sidewalk space for outdoor dining, new crosswalks, added lighting, and additional benches. Both the public and members of the media are encouraged to attend. To lean more about the Lockport Street Streetscape project, visit http://www.plainfieldstreetscape.com.
