International Disaster Relief

On Monday, May 12, China’s Sichuan Province experienced a major earthquake, measuring a 7.9 on the Richter scale. This natural disaster has left thousands dead and many others missing are injured.

On May 2, 2008, Cyclone Nargis reached the Southwest region of Burma and continued Northeast, causing widespread damage across the country. The cyclone has left thousands dead, destroyed basic infrastructure, and left large populations displaced.

As a representative of California’s 9^th Congressional District, I know I speak for all of my constituents when I say our hearts go out to the Chinese and Burmese people. My thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones and to those who are fighting to save survivors as rescue efforts continue following these terrible tragedies.
