MILLER VOTES TO SUSTAIN PRESIDENT'S VETO
Washington, DC (May 02, 2007) - Congressman Jeff Miller (R-Fl-01) today voted to uphold the President’s veto on the Democrats’ Emergency Iraq War Supplemental bill. Needing two-thirds of the House voting in favor to overturn President Bush’s veto, the vote failed 222-203.
“Everything the new Democratic leadership has done since January has been to deliberately delay the flow of war funds,” Miller said. “Senate Majority Leader Reid has effectively surrendered to the enemy saying the war is lost, while Speaker Pelosi defiantly refused to appoint conferees to consider the emergency funding bill during Easter recess. But what really disgusts me is that the Democratic leadership in the House has ignored the pleas of our military leadership for adequate funding to insure adequate reinforcement of our troops on the ground.”
“Instead of passing a clean supplement for our troops, Democrats are playing politics with the readiness of our military and the morale of our troops. I find this shameful and unacceptable. Democrats should either schedule a vote to stop the funding of the operations in Iraq or they should act swiftly to ensure that our men and women in combat have the resources and assistance they need to do their job to win this war.”
