U.S. Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. 26th District of Texas

A passport is an internationally recognized travel document that verifies the identity and nationality of the bearer.  A valid U.S. passport is required to enter and leave all foreign countries, including Canada and Mexico.

Only the U.S. Department of State has the authority to grant, issue or verify United States passports.  The Passport Services Office provides information and services to American citizens about how to obtain, replace or change a passport.

Before visiting a foreign country, you should ensure that all your travel concerns are addressed. Here are a few of the most common questions my office receives that deal with passports (click on the question to be direct to the State Department's website with the appropriate answer):

1. How can I renew my existing passport?

2. I can't wait 6 weeks to get my passport. Can I get it faster?

Remember:  Before traveling to any foreign country, it is advised to visit the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs for updated information on safety and international affairs.
