U.S. Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D., a resident of Lewisville, worked as a doctor in Denton County for over 21 years.   A respected physician of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Lewisville, Dr. Burgess delivered more than 3000 babies in North Texas before heading to Congress in 2003.

Highly educated, Rep. Burgess has four degrees: two from the now University of North Texas, an M.D. from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and another Masters degree in Medical Management from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2000.

Founder of a private practice, former Chief of Staff for Lewisville Medical Center, and most recently Chief of Obstetrics at Lewisville Medical Center, Rep. Michael Burgess was committed to better the lives of those around him before making the decision to run for Congress.


In Congress


Since his election in 2002, Congressman Michael Burgess has made amazing strides in pushing legislative priorities including modernizing America’s health care system, building a strong defense, protecting our Homeland, cutting wasteful government spending, reforming the tax code, and making America energy self-sufficient.

First elected in 2002, Congressman Burgess served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure, Government Reform and Science Committees during his first term. 
Re-elected in 2004 and 2006, Congressman Michael Burgess serves as a member of the prestigious House Energy and Commerce Committee which is one of only three exclusive committees in the House of Representatives.  Congressman Burgess sits on four subcommittees: Health, Energy, Oversight and Investigations, and Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection.

Recent committee work has included investigations concerning consumer product safety on imported toys and food products; hearings on funding for the National Institutes of Health and discussions about energy efficiency.

In addition, Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. is Vice Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee which serves as a formal council to formulate and implement national legislative priorities, and to improve relationships between the executive and legislative branches of government.

Committee assignments, writing legislation, reviewing intelligence reports, and hosting meetings with constituents are but a few of the activities in the everyday life of Congressman Michael C. Burgess.
