As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security,
Ginny has taken an active role in Committee deliberations as they work to shape
America's
domestic preparedness and security future.
With jurisdiction over the Department of Homeland Security, Ginny works with the Committee to help ensure that our
borders are safe and secure from foreign threats.
With more than thirty years of government service, Ginny
brings a wealth of experience in emergency preparedness and investigation and
oversight to the Committee. She will use
Florida's actions and accomplishments from the
immediate post-9/11 period as well as their response to natural disasters that
hit Florida's
shores and harm local communities.
Experience:
Served as Chairman of the Florida Senate’s Select Committee
on Public Security and Crisis following September 11, 2001 in the Florida State
Senate.
Emergency preparedness and investigative experience from
service in Florida
will help enrich the Committee as Members respond to future disasters.
Ginny’s 110th
Congress Accomplishments:
Passed H.R. 1413, a bill to establish a pilot program at 7
airports to require all airport employees to undergo physical screening before
entering secure areas.
Introduced H.R. 3531, a bill to enforce our nation’s
immigration laws and crackdown on ‘sanctuary cities.
Introduced H.R. 3496, a bill to ensure that federal
contractors do not employ illegal aliens.
Worked with Florida
and DHS to implement fairly and effectively the Transportation Worker
Identification Credential (TWIC) program.
The TWIC program will ensure that those entering our nation’s ports do
not pose a threat to our security.
Ginny’s 109th
Congress Accomplishments:
Contributed ideas to increase FEMA’s accountability, passed
as part of H.R. 5441, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations of
2007 Act, including:
Requiring DHS to study their
interagency chain of command during recent natural disasters and report back on
findings and potential legislative changes.
Create a stronger inspector general
position to continually oversee and audit FEMA payments and reimbursements.
Increase volunteer coordination
capabilities to process requests and offers during disaster
Passed 100% cargo screening amendment during consideration
of H.R. 4954, the SAFE
Port Act.
Participated in drafting H.R. 4253, the Committee’s border
security bill in the 109th Congress, by adding language to implement
contracting and save money in transportation services for deporting illegal
aliens.
Worked to include language in the Committee authorization
bill, H.R. 5814 that would create a pilot program at five airports to require
all airport employees to undergo physical screening before entering secure
areas.
